Undara Lava Tubes Queensland The Undara (Aboriginal for "a long way") Lava Tubes were created around 190,000 years ago when the McBride volcanic province had a tremendous eruption. The lava from the explosion flowed down a dry river bed. The top layer cooled and hardened while the bottom layer flowed on, making the lava tubes.
Undara Lava Tubes Queensland has several exciting tours for visitors including the Archway Explorer Tour. Explore alone or with a guided tour group and see the lava tubes up close. Wildlife sightings may include rock wallabies and micro bats that live in the tubes. Bayliss Cave is Undara's longest cave. Visitors get the chance to see the underside of a Eucalyptus tree. Their hanging roots take in moisture from the caves humid air. It is common to see the Cave Moth as well as children's pythons while exploring in the lava tubes.
Take a walk around the edge of Kalkani crater. You will see the collapsed lava tube line as well as how vast the tube system of the Undara Lava Tubes Queensland really is. This trek involves some rough walkways, some climbing and takes around 8 hours so it is important to be in good shape.
For unique accommodations consider staying in the restored Railway Carriages of the Undara Lava Lodge. Sleep in your very own carriage like passengers did on long-ago journeys. Enjoy the sounds and sights of the bush from the decks of these carriages shaded by large gum trees. Swags Tent Village offers permanent tents in a comfortable shady setting for those who want to rough it just a bit. Tents have electricity, mattresses and kitchenettes for your comfort.
Undara Lava Tubes Queensland is for the adventurer and the explorer. Walk where lava flowed 190,000 years ago and take home memories that last a lifetime.
